Weiße Rose

Event detail page

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum dedicated its newly constructed amphitheater to the memory of the White Rose Movement, a courageous group of young students from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München who were executed by the Nazi regime in 1943 for their resistance. Since the liberation of Germany, the White Rose has stood as a powerful symbol of moral courage, conscience, and peaceful resistance against tyranny. Observed every year on 27 January, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, proclaimed by the United Nations, honors the victims of the Holocaust and serves as a reminder to educate future generations about the dangers of hatred, prejudice, and intolerance.

We are deeply honored that Prof. Dr. Hildegard Kronawitter (Chairperson of the Weiße Rose Stiftung) traveled from Munich to name the amphitheater in the presence of Mr. G. Vijaya Raghavan (Chairperson, Goethe-Zentrum Kerala) and students of Goethe Zentrum. This dedication serves as a lasting commitment to remembrance, reflection, and human values.

As part of the Naming Ceremony of the Amphitheatre, prizes were presented to the winners of the “My Goethe” Reels Contest, held in celebration of Goethe-Zentrum’s 18th Anniversary. The contest invited students to creatively express their personal connection with Goethe-Zentrum and its vibrant learning community.

The occasion also featured the felicitation of Ms. Mekha Jayakumar and Ms. Anjali Dileep, trained nurses, participants of the Triple Win Program, and students of Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum. They had the distinguished opportunity to meet the German Chancellor, Mr. Friedrich Merz, during his high-level delegation visit to Ahmedabad on an inspiring milestone that reflects the global pathways enabled through language education and international cooperation.

The event reinforced Goethe-Zentrum’s commitment to academic excellence, intercultural understanding, and global opportunity.
