Hermann Gundert needs no introduction in Kerala. Still, the documentary film made by the renowned filmmaker Ganesh Sankar Raj with the support of the German Consulate General in Bengaluru, gave the audience at the Goethe-Zentrum a unique opportunity to travel into the life and works of this multifaceted German genius, who has contributed in infinite ways to the linguistic and cultural development of Kerala.
The documentary was screened to an invited audience and it was followed by a very vivid panel discussion on the life and works of Gundert. We wish to thank Prof. Vijaya Kumar for his wonderful speech on “Asan and Germany”, by which he took the audience to a completely new expanse of knowledge on the connect Kerala’s great poet Kumaran Asan had with Germany.
