Important Information!!!! Please note that the courses scheduled to start on 11th of May have been shifted due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The new date will be intimated on the website as soon as we have received permission from the authorities to resume our classes. Take care and with best regards, Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum/Kochi

Dear students,

The whole world is currently going through a period of uncertainly that no one will forget soon. Like many of you, we are trying to do what we can to help our students and the community navigate through this unprecedented time. We are sure that this crisis will also become part of our history very soon and the world will return to a normal routine – however, with more respect for nature and fellow human beings – and that your Goethe-Zentrum in Trivandrum and Kochi will once again reverberate with your presence and your voices.

Since Kerala is the worst affected state, the current crisis might last for at least 2 – 3 months and we should be able to resume our normal classes at the Zentrum only by beginning of June, if not earlier. It will be very unwise to wait until then, since you will forget the German that you have already learnt. This will slow you down when you attend classes again at the Zentrum. Since a physical class appears a distant dream at the moment, the Goethe-Institutes and Goethe-Zentrums all around the world have decided to go for the one and only possibility to continue learning German - the online course. The Corona crisis has made us all dependent on digital communication like never before. Everyone, be it college or school students, has no other way to continue with their studies without taking this dip into the digital world. As the entire world around us is in a way compelled to adapt to this change, we have only one option: whether to adopt the change and move ahead OR let others overtake us and leave us behind. So, we call upon our dear students to have confidence in the online possibilities.

Considering all these, the Goethe-Zentrum will continue the present course from 15th of April onwards using the medium ZOOM. Please do note that these courses will be only partially online and will only cover the lessons. All exam preparations will take place in the Zentrum when it reopens – so you will have two or three weeks of exam preparation at the Zentrum. More details about the online phase of the courses will be given by your respective class teachers.

We understand from our several interactions with you, our valuable students, that many of you have difficulties to set up the required technical infrastructure like good internet connectivity and a laptop.  We have spoken to BSNL and if you need any internet connection in your place, we would assist you to get a broadband connection by BSNL in your hometown, if possible.

If you, for any reason, are not able to join the online course, you can join the normal course when we reopen the Goethe-Zentrum. However, please bear in mind that we may not be able to take all students at once when we restart and some will have to wait for the next batch.

Hence, we urge all of you to join this online phase and PLEASE do not shy away from it! You can Do It! And our entire team is there to help you with all means to make this digital session an interactive and effective learning experience for you.

The Goethe-Institut is named after the renowned German scholar Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It is a non-profit German cultural institution operational worldwide, promoting the study of the German language abroad and encouraging international cultural exchange and relations.

The Goethe-Institut also fosters knowledge about Germany by providing information on German culture, society and politics. This includes not only the exchange of films, music, theatre, literature, and the like, but also the values of civil society. Goethe cultural societies and language centers have played a central role in the cultural and educational policies of Germany for close to 60 years.

In order to further promote German language and cultural activities across the world, the Goethe-Institut has also set up a network of Goethe-Centres (Goethe-Zentrum) in several cities including Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Trivandrum and Kochi. These centres work in strict alignment with the Goethe-Institut while planning and executing the German language courses and examinations.
